For my photography assignment my theme is
going to be Melbourne City in black and white. And the artists that have
inspired me with this project are Matt Irwin, Marcus Hartel and Sabine Jacobs.
They all gave me really good ideas of what to photograph around the city but
Marcus Hartel gave me a more of a creative idea on what to capture as he had
some different ones like taking a picture from the inside of the car and a train.
They have inspired me because they have
captured laneways and landmarks such as flinders street station in their
photographs and that’s what I want to show in my final pieces of art as well.
I liked the fact that the artist I had researched captured their photographs in various ways and angels. One that Matt Irwin captured was of flinders street station and had a taxi in front of it and you could clearly tell it was moving and you got that motion in the picture and I hope to capture like that too. These photographers have also captured at different times of the day rather than just at day time and I think that at night time it can bring out better features in the pictures because a flash would be used because of the darkness.
My chosen medium is digital photography because then I can use Photoshop to change the pictures into black and white and also change the saturation, crop it and a few other changes as well. I may need to explore filters in black and white also to see what brings out the best in the photograph.
I intend to finish my work is on a poster with the four images set in 2 columns that each has 2 pictures. I want there to be a heading that says Melbourne city and under each picture will be the name of the photograph. I want to do this on a black piece of paper with white pencil writing and also metallic colours if I can find some. I also want to complete a booklet with a white background with a series of images that I will take. I would like to do a series of train stations, lane ways, landmarks and then people who entertain the passersby in the city. I will look into photographers who have done a number of art work series and journals to give me an idea on the best way to present my finished work and weather there are simple steps that I can take to make sure its one of the best pieces of work I have done for my VCE photography
